Twins & Orioles in serious discussion over JJ Hardy

December 8, 2010

About 15 minutes ago Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun tweeted that the Twins and Orioles are in “serious discussions” which would send JJ Hardy to Baltimore.  Connolly believes that two minor league pitchers are to be included in the deal.  One of the pitchers rumored to be included is Brett Jacobson

From the initial looks of it, this is absolutely nothing to be excited about.  Jacobson is only 23 years old but is still stuck in High A ball.  That is not normally a good thing.  He is a 6’6″ reliever who can top out at 98 MPH but is usually around 95 MPH.  He has a fastball, changeup and curveball.  Below is a scouting video of him from his days in college.

Last year Jacobson had 71 inings pitched with a 67/24 K/BB ration and a 52% GB%.

The numbers aren’t terrible and he does seem to have some upside but this in my mind is not even close to equal value for JJ Hardy.  I am guessing the Twins are clearing some money in an effort to resign Carl Pavano.  I am not 100% sold that is the right move to make.  I can honestly say I am not too thrilled about this move if Bill Smith pulls the trigger.
